Network Engineer II

The Network Engineer II is responsible for handling the maintenance, repair and support of networks and products to ensure continued operation and functionality of the network, systems, and products.

Network Engineer II

The Network Engineer II is responsible for handling the maintenance, repair and support of networks and products to ensure continued operation and functionality of the network, systems, and products.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Work with vendors and other third parties to provide support for customer networking environments (including equipment and circuit vendors)
- Build firewalls from scratch and make needed changes to current firewalls across various vendors; including changes to Access-lists, NAT/PAT assignments, management protocols, Remote Access VPN, and IPSEC LAN-to-LAN VPN tunnels
- Provide high-quality technical support to customers at all levels
- Must have on-call availability

- Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited college or university
- In lieu of undergraduate degree, the ratio is 1:1 - meaning one year of college equals one year of work experience and vice versa
- Network industry certification (CCNA or Higher, NSE 4 or Higher) required
- Customarily has at least 5 years of technical experience
- Customarily has at least 3 years of position specific experience
- Customarily has at least 3 years of mentorship experience
- Customarily has at least 2 years of client facing, project management experience
- Customarily has at least 2 years of experience working in managed services & multi-tenant environments
- Advanced experience managing and implementing routing protocols including static routes, EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP, preferred
- Advanced experience implementing and supporting layer 2 LAN topologies, preferred
- Hands-on experience extending VLANs across a large enterprise/datacenter network core, and manipulating Spanning Tree topologies, a plus

- Strong working knowledge in implementing access/authentication technologies such as LDAP, RADIUS, TACACS
- Knowledge of current emerging/new technologies and the potential impact and efficiencies they may have in a managed services environment.
- Conceptual knowledge of DNS, TCP/IP, SMTP, SNMP, HTTP, SSL
- Advanced knowledge of how application data flows over the network (firm foundation of OSI model)
- Detailed understanding of routing and switching in non-standard/complex environments including campus LAN, full-meshed WAN, SD-WAN, and Datacenter networks
- Ability to speak with a high level of technical understanding, resolving complex technical problems and helping to proactively prevent new issues as it relates to Synoptek and their client’s IT infrastructures
- Operate with integrity, follow through on commitments, maintain a can-do attitude and demonstrate courage under pressure
