A Purchasing Manager - Import is responsible for sourcing, procuring, and managing the import of goods for an organization, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery while adhering to import regulations and maintaining quality standards. Their key duties include developing import strategies, negotiating with international suppliers, managing inventory, and ensuring compliance with customs and trade laws.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement import procurement strategies: This includes identifying and evaluating potential suppliers, negotiating contracts, and establishing long-term relationships.
  • Manage supplier relationships: Monitor supplier performance, address issues, and ensure compliance with contracts and regulations.
  • Oversee import documentation and customs clearance: Ensure accurate and complete documentation for all import shipments, working with customs brokers and other relevant parties.
  • Negotiate import terms and pricing: Negotiate favorable terms with suppliers, including pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules.
  • Manage inventory: Forecast demand, monitor inventory levels, and ensure timely delivery of goods to meet production or distribution needs.
  • Ensure compliance with import/export regulations: Stay up-to-date on relevant regulations and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and procedures.
  • Analyze market trends: Monitor market trends, including pricing, availability, and new technologies, to identify sourcing opportunities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams: Work with sales, marketing, and other departments to understand demand, plan inventory, and ensure smooth import operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business administration, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in international sourcing, procurement, and import/export regulations.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of import/export regulations, customs procedures, and international trade laws.
  • Proficiency in relevant software, such as ERP systems and procurement platforms.
