Job Summary: The Safety Engineer shall be responsible for implementing, maintaining, and improving the organization's health and safety management system to ensure a safe working environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors. The role involves identifying hazards, assessing risks, developing and implementing safety procedures, conducting training, and ensuring compliance with all applicable safety regulations and standards.

Key Responsibilities

HSE Management System Implementation and Maintenance:

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the organization's HSE management system (e.g., ISO 45001).
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant national and state safety regulations (e.g., Factories Act, Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code).
  • Develop and maintain HSE policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to verify compliance with HSE requirements.
  • Maintain accurate HSE records and documentation.

Hazard Identification And Risk Assessment

  • Conduct Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRAs) for various activities and processes.
  • Identify potential hazards related to machinery, equipment, tools, materials, and work processes.
  • Evaluate the severity of potential injuries or illnesses and the likelihood of occurrence.
  • Develop and implement risk control measures, following the hierarchy of control (elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, and PPE).
  • Ensure that risk assessments are reviewed and updated regularly.

Safety Training And Awareness

  • Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and contractors.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and safety meetings.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through awareness campaigns and initiatives.
  • Ensure that all personnel are aware of potential hazards and safe work practices.
  • Provide training on the proper use of PPE.

Incident Investigation And Reporting

  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and contributing factors.
  • Prepare detailed incident investigation reports with recommendations for corrective and preventive actions.
  • Track and analyse incident statistics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Ensure that all incidents are reported to the appropriate authorities as required.

Emergency Preparedness And Response

  • Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Conduct emergency drills and exercises.
  • Ensure that first-aid facilities and trained personnel are available.
  • Coordinate with external emergency services as needed.

Site Safety Management

  • Oversee safety activities at construction sites or industrial facilities.
  • Ensure that contractors comply with the organization's safety requirements.
  • Conduct site safety inspections and audits.
  • Monitor and enforce safety regulations and permit-to-work systems.
  • Manage site safety personnel.

Liaison With Authorities

  • Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies (e.g., Factory Inspectorate).
  • Ensure that all required permits and licenses are obtained and maintained.
  • Represent the organization in safety-related meetings and discussions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, or related field) or a Bachelor's degree in Science with a Diploma in Industrial Safety.
  • Diploma in Industrial Safety or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution (Mandatory).
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience as a Safety Engineer in a construction or industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and standards in India.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and training skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) certifications.
  • ASP/CSP (Associate Safety Professional/Certified Safety Professional) or equivalent certifications.
  • Experience in [Specific industry, e.g., solar, power, manufacturing].
  • Knowledge of environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
