Lead - Applied AI

Reports To: President, ORF

Location: New Delhi

Responsibilities and Expectations:

We are seeking a technically skilled and intellectually curious professional to lead the design, development, and deployment of AI-powered tools across ORF's research and knowledge ecosystem.

The role involves:

• Working with researchers to identify workflows amenable to AI augmentation, and building practical solutions, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems, research synthesis tools, data dashboards, and automated monitoring pipelines.
• Developing and maintaining AI-powered discovery and retrieval interfaces on ORF's digital platforms, enabling readers to search, navigate, and engage with publications.
• Iterating on deployed tools based on user feedback, and ensuring that all AI-assisted outputs meet rigorous standards of accuracy and credibility.

Preferred Qualifications:

• At least a bachelor's degree, preferably in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field
• 4–5 years of work experience in software development, AI/ML engineering, or a related domain
• Demonstrable experience building and deploying LLM-based applications or AI-assisted research tools

Skillset:

• Proficiency in Python and familiarity with major AI/LLM frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, OpenAI API, or equivalents)
• Experience with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), vector databases, and document processing pipelines
• Experience designing and deploying public-facing AI interfaces, including chatbots, semantic search engines, or intelligent content recommendation systems
• Familiarity with web integration, APIs, and front-end deployment sufficient to embed AI tools within an existing digital platform
• Familiarity with data visualisation tools and dashboard development
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects independently with minimal supervision
