Technical Skills
- Strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles, mechanisms, machine elements, tolerance stack-up analysis, and GD&T..
- Experience designing product enclosures and chassis parts (e.g. A-cover, C-cover, D-cover) for electronic devices or similar products.
- Expertise in kinematic mechanism design – especially hinge assemblies – with controlled torque/friction characteristics to achieve smooth, single-finger opening and closing, without base lift.
- Experience designing internal frames, brackets, and stiffeners to support PCBs and modules.
- Familiarity with injection molding, metal casting, CNC machining, and sheet metal fabrication techniques.
- Knowledge of surface treatments and finishes.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling and drafting Able to create and manage large assembly models of enclosures and mechanical components, and produce fully dimensioned 2D engineering drawings with GD&T.
- Experience with FEA/CAE tools (e.g. ANSYS, Abaqus) for structural, thermal, and kinematic analysis.
- Competence in tolerance analysis software or calculations.
- Familiarity with PLM/PDM systems for revision control and Bill of Materials (BOM) management.
- Experience in consumer electronics or precision enclosure design/manufacturing.
- Knowledge of high-volume production and quality standards (drop tests, thermal, ingress protection).
- Willingness to work closely with manufacturing and suppliers, including potential travel to vendor sites or manufacturing facilities for tooling reviews, production trials, and issue resolution.
- Knowledge of industry standards and compliance for mechanical components, including safety, materials, and environmental regulations. Ensure parts meet legal (e.g., ROHS, REACH, safety) and internal quality and appearance standards
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong leadership and team coordination capabilities to drive cross-functional teams
- Problem-solving aptitude and decisiveness to address technical and logistical challenges promptly
- Customer focus with the ability to build trust and long-term relationships. High adaptability, a proactive approach, and the capacity to work under tight deadlines
- Lead mechanical design for device enclosures and mechanisms, covering both chassis and internal structure development.
- Design high-precision covers and structural elements, from external A/C/D covers to internal frames and hinges, ensuring all engineering, aesthetic, and manufacturability standards are met.
- Work with cross-functional teams to deliver robust and innovative mechanical solutions for top-tier product performance and user experience.
- Balance innovative design with manufacturing efficiency, ensuring scalable production and adherence to quality and CMF standards.
- Design A-Cover, C-Cover, D-Cover, and other housing parts for devices. Produce detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings with required features like mounts, ribs, bosses, gaskets, and fasteners.
- Design complex hinge systems and moving parts. Determine torque, spring force, damping, and materials to achieve easy opening/closing and longevity
- Design internal frames, brackets, and reinforcement features that secure PCBs, connectors, and modules within the device.
- Work closely with fabrication teams to build prototypes and first articles of mechanical parts.
- Communicate part designs and requirements, and review supplier tooling designs (molds, dies, fixtures) for compliance.
- Support the manufacturing ramp-up by resolving build issues and qualifying any engineering changes (ECOs) to meet schedule and quality goals.
- Ensure all mechanical designs meet the required quality standards and regulatory compliance.
- Drive continuous improvements by capturing lessons learned from current projects to inform future design guidelines and best practices.
