Sr. SAM Consultant

Position Summary:

The Senior Software Asset Management (SAM) Consultant (L3) should be highly specialized IT governance and a licensing expert. Expert in overseeing complex software license compliance (Microsoft, Oracle, SAP , IBM), and lead strategic audits, cost optimizations for global clients.

Key Responsibilities

• The role requires extensive experience in managing SAP license management, understanding the products of SAP from a licensing perspective, including understanding agreements, licensing mechanisms, various metrics, and rules.
• Lead software license reconciliation and baseline calculations for tier-1 vendors (e.g., Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, Adobe, VMware, Red Hat).
• Reviewing existing license contracts and usage data to ensure compliance with licensing terms.
• Analysing user access patterns to recommend appropriate license types.
• Generating Effective License Position (ELP) reports, compliance statuses, and cost analyses.
• Staying informed about the latest trends and terminology in SAP and its products, other publishers products licensing.
• Conducting SAP and other publishers license audits and reviews to identify compliance issues and suggest solutions.
• Advising clients on strategies to optimize SAP and other publishers licenses, maximizing value while minimizing costs.
• Advise customers on all SAP licensing topics, including named users, use types, engines, indirect/digital access

• Act as the primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) during internal and external vendor audits.
• Develop “true-up” strategies and mitigate compliance risks to prevent financial penalties.
• Create customized compliance dashboards, automated workflows, and reporting mechanisms for executive stakeholders using tools of Snow, Flexera one etc.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities through license harvesting, downgrades, and reallocations.

• Advise clients on shifting from on-premise to complex cloud/subscription-based licensing models (AWS, Azure, SaaS).

• Provide tier-3 functional and technical escalation support
• Mentor junior and L2 consultants, reviewing their deliverables and guiding them on complex licensing scenarios.

• Experience: 8 to 12 years of core ITAM/SAM experience, with at least 3+ years in a senior consulting or L3 capacity at a global IT consultancy or enterprise.
• Licensing Knowledge: Deep understanding of server, core, and user-based licensing models for major publishers.
• Soft Skills: Exceptional stakeholder management, analytical problem-solving, and executive-level presentation skills.

Preferred Certifications

• ITIL 4 Foundation Qualification
• Certified Software Asset Manager (CSAM)
