Technical Fiber Analyst

Job Summary

• Managing Project Schedules as dictated by the customer

• Dark Fiber
  • Providing critical analysis on vendor's fiber network data handover packages
  • Use of industry standard software to assist (ie EXFO FastReporter2)
  • Build reports from the required field test data (using FastReporter2)
    • OTDR traces
    • CD/PMD
    • Power measurement/Span Loss
    • ORL
    • Fiber End Face validation

• Leased Wave Testing
  • Coordinate field teams to successful completion of testing regimen
  • Coordinate vendors to enable support of field teams
  • Build test data reports and optical power value reports

• Preparing deployment testing packages for Field Engineers including:
  • Network schematics
  • Scope of works
  • Test result packages
  • Site Access tickets and information

• Managing all project documentation and ensure delivery of final handover data within three days of test completion

• Interfacing and coordinating with vendors or customer support teams to provide remediation to dark fiber or leased wave issues

• Project management and strong organizational competence

• Able to understand and interpret:
  • OTDR,
  • CD/PMD,
  • OLTS and,
  • CMAX traces and files.

• Able to describe the details, structure and layout of ISP and OSP Fiber Networks

• Advanced use experience with Fast Reporter 2 or equivalent

• Strong knowledge of ISP and OSP infrastructure

• High level analytical skills

• Effectively present to team meetings both written and orally

• Identify issues and enact resolutions effectively

• Assist deployed teams in fiber and wave issue resolution

• Multi-task effectively and maintain project deadlines

• Interface with vendors and develop issue remediation protocols

• Minimum 3 years experience within a Telecom Network Infrastructure environment

• Able to use any generic office software.

• Operate typical optical fiber analysis test equipment (OTDR and CD/PMD testing, laser source/power meter (insertion loss) testing

• Understand and fully interpret Chromatic Dispersion and Polarization Mode Dispersion data

• Fully identify ISP and OSP fiber issues and provide resolution advice

• Understanding of various fiber types and their inherent characteristics

• Splicing techniques and inherent characteristics

• Understanding and has high working knowledge of EXFO Toolbox used in the analysis of fibre test data or similar software applications

• Understanding and has high working knowledge of Exfo Fast Reporter software or similar software applications

• Minimum of two years in a project management or project support capacity

• Bachelor's degree in a related Engineering subject or related technical experience

• Experience with understanding vendor contractual deliverables

• Experienced with Exfo FastReporter software analysis tool

• Additional languages a definite asset

• This position has a 10% travel potential
