About the Role

Deccan AI is a venture-backed AI infrastructure company ($25M Series A, Prosus Ventures), headquartered in the Bay Area with an engineering hub in Hyderabad. We build the infrastructure layer for Reinforcement Learning and Agentic AI and work with frontier labs including Google DeepMind and Snowflake.

Deccan AI is looking for a Frontend Developer to design and build the tools our human annotators and reviewers use every day, including data labeling interfaces, QA dashboards, and annotation workflows that power our AI training pipelines. You'll work at the intersection of great UX and complex data structures, building tools that need to be fast, intuitive, and reliable at scale.

What You'll Do

• Design and build web-based data labeling and annotation tools (text, image, audio, video, and multimodal annotation interfaces)
• Build intuitive UIs for complex workflows: bounding boxes, segmentation, entity tagging, conversation rating, ranking/comparison interfaces, etc.
• Collaborate closely with product, ML, and operations teams to translate labeling guidelines into usable tool features
• Optimize for annotator speed and accuracy, since every extra click or lag point affects throughput at scale
• Build real-time collaboration features, keyboard-shortcut-driven workflows, and progress/QA dashboards
• Ensure tools perform well with large datasets (virtualization, lazy loading, efficient state management)
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and participate in code reviews
• Iterate quickly based on annotator feedback and changing labeling requirements

What We're Looking For

• Strong proficiency in React (or similar modern frontend framework) and JavaScript/TypeScript
• Experience building data-dense or workflow-heavy UIs (dashboards, editors, internal tools)
• Solid understanding of state management (Redux, Zustand, React Query, etc.)
• Experience with canvas/SVG-based interactions (for image/video annotation tools) is a strong plus
• Familiarity with performance optimization for large lists/datasets (virtualization libraries, memoization)
• Understanding of REST/GraphQL APIs and integrating with backend services
• Good eye for UX; you care about reducing friction for end users, not just shipping features
• Experience with component libraries and design systems
• Bonus: experience with WebSockets/real-time features, accessibility (a11y), or prior work on annotation/labeling tools specifically

Nice to Have

• Experience in AI/ML data pipelines or working with data labeling vendors/platforms
• Familiarity with audio/video processing in-browser
• Experience with testing frameworks (Jest, Playwright/Cypress)
