Trade Commissioner & Country Manager, India

We are now looking for a Trade Commissioner & Country Manager to India, one of the world's fastest-growing major economies and an increasingly important market for Swedish companies. With a population exceeding 1.4 billion, ambitious economic reforms, significant investments in infrastructure and manufacturing, and growing strategic importance in the global economy, India offers substantial opportunities across a wide range of sectors.
As Trade Commissioner & Country Manager, you will lead one of Business Sweden's largest and most strategically important operations globally. You will be responsible for driving commercial growth, developing our team and strengthening Sweden's business relations with India. The role combines strategic leadership, client development, stakeholder management and operational execution.
You will represent Swedish business interests in India and play a key role in advancing trade, investment and innovation collaboration between Sweden and India. The position requires close collaboration with the Embassy of Sweden, Team Sweden partners, Swedish authorities and industry stakeholders, as well as senior decision-makers in both the private and public sectors.
The role includes both strategic, tactical and operational responsibilities such as:
- Driving sustainable revenue growth and profitability in line with agreed target
- Leading, developing and inspiring a high-performing team across India
- Representing Business Sweden and Swedish enterprise in the market
- Selling and delivering Business Sweden's services to existing and prospective clients
- Building and maintaining senior-level relationships with companies, government stakeholders and strategic partners
- Managing and participating in consulting, market expansion and business development projects
- Full Profit & Loss responsibility for the India operation
- Driving organisational development, operational excellence and collaboration across the APAC region
- Contributing to Business Sweden's broader strategic priorities and regional initiatives
You will have very close relations with the Embassy of Sweden and other Team Sweden stakeholders. This means acting as an official representative of Sweden and contributing to the continued strengthening of the Sweden-India partnership.
The role is based in India and requires regular travel within the country, across Asia Pacific and occasionally to Sweden.

Formal requirements
- University or equivalent degree in Business Administration, Economics, Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 15 years of relevant professional experience.
- Significant leadership experience with direct people management responsibility.
- Proven track record of successful sales, business development and client relationship management.
- Experience managing Profit & Loss responsibility and delivering against financial targets.
- Experience from consulting, international business development, export promotion, professional services or other client-facing advisory environments.
- Experience leading complex multi-stakeholder projects involving both private and public sector actors.
- Strong understanding of international trade, market expansion, foreign direct investment and business transformation.
- Experience working closely with senior corporate executives, government officials and industry associations.
Highly Meriting Experience
- Previous experience from Business Sweden.
- Experience from leadership positions within the APAC region.
- Experience from India or other high-growth emerging markets.
- Strong understanding of Team Sweden collaboration, government relations and trade promotion.
- Experience from sectors of strategic importance to Sweden and India, such as manufacturing, energy, digitalisation, life sciences, infrastructure or emerging technologies.
For this role Swedish citizenship is required as well as fluency in written and spoken Swedish.
