Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced developer to maintain and enhance an affordable housing software product currently built on PowerBuilder 11.5 and Microsoft SQL Server, while helping lead our migration to PowerBuilder 2025 and PowerServer 2025. This role combines legacy application support with modernization work, including architecture updates, migration planning, testing, and deployment readiness.

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance the existing PowerBuilder 11.5 application used for affordable housing operations.
  • Execute and support phased migration activities to PowerBuilder 2025 and PowerServer 2025.
  • Analyze current codebase and identify remediation needs for compatibility, performance, and maintainability.
  • Develop and optimize SQL Server objects including queries, stored procedures, views, and indexing strategies.
  • Support web enablement and deployment workflows through PowerServer 2025.
  • Collaborate with product, QA, infrastructure, and support teams on migration planning, risk mitigation, and release execution.
  • Create technical documentation for migration decisions and deployment processes.
  • Diagnose and resolve production issues, data inconsistencies, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Ensure system updates align with affordable housing compliance and reporting requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of PowerBuilder development experience, including strong experience in PowerBuilder 11.5.
  • 5+ years of Microsoft SQL Server experience with advanced T-SQL skills, including hands-on work in large-scale stored procedure ecosystems across development, performance tuning, dependency/impact analysis, troubleshooting, and safe production modernization.
  • Experience with legacy application support in production environments.
  • Strong debugging, root cause analysis, and performance tuning skills.
  • Familiarity with software lifecycle practices include testing, release management, and post-release support.
  • Hands-on experience with Git for source control, including branching strategies, pull requests, code reviews, and merge conflict resolution
  • Working knowledge of Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipelines, build/release automation, and work item tracking.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PowerBuilder 2022 or later, and migration to newer versions such as PowerBuilder 2025.
  • Experience implementing or supporting PowerServer deployments.
  • Experience with CI/CD practices, source control, and structured release pipelines.
  • Experience with regulated or government-adjacent software environments.
