Role: Shift Incharge - Production (Paintshop- Rework)

About the Team and the Role:
The Production team at Ather is responsible for leading and aligning shift members to achieve key performance indicators under the SQCDM pillars, ensuring seamless battery manufacturing operations.
This role is for a Shift In-charge - Paintshop who will align 3M resources to meet daily operational goals, plan on-the-job training for associate multiskilling, and maintain a performance-oriented work environment.
Lead Shift Operations & SQCDM:
- You will manage associates and staff to consistently achieve Safety, Quality, Cost, Productivity, and Morale (SQCDM) targets and goals.
- You will monitor, measure, and report on production-related process performance and general operational issues.
- You will plan, analyze, and resolve bottlenecks in the production processes to ensure output targets are met.
Master Paintshop & Technical Processes:
- Liquid Paint Mastery: You will provide deep technical oversight for Liquid Paint applications, including equipment operation and process sequencing.
- Process Parameter Control: You will oversee the setting and monitoring of critical parameters (film thickness, viscosity, voltage) and chemical formulations to prevent defects.
- Technology Adoption: You will keep up-to-date with the latest advancements in production technology and implement relevant innovations
- Process Health: You will ensure smooth running and good health of the production processes, along with the upkeep of the plant and equipment.
Rework Process:
- Proven experience in automotive/industrial paint rework, including defect identification, wet/dry sanding, compounding, polishing, and spot blending to achieve flawless finishes.
- Defect Correction: Perform spot repairs, blending, and full-panel repainting to correct paint defects such as sags, runs, orange peel, dirt inclusions, and scratches.
- Surface Preparation: Proficient in surface preparation techniques for rework, including masking, degreasing, and wet/dry sanding.
- Polishing & Finishing: Execute advanced compounding, buffing, and polishing techniques to restore reworked surfaces to required quality and gloss standards.
- Color Matching: Ensure seamless color matching, blending, and uniform finish on all reworked areas to match the original paint job.
Champion Quality & Standards:
- You will ensure that the quality of the product produced within the shift is strictly in line with the company’s quality systems, processes, and procedures.
- You will work closely with New Product Development (NPI), Quality Assurance, and Maintenance personnel to seamlessly implement new product introductions and prevent problems with products, tooling, or fixtures.
- Maintain audit readiness for internal process and stock audits as well as external ISO certifications.
- Coordinate change management processes (MQ1, SOR, DAP) and collaborate with Spec Ops to implement containment actions.
Drive Safety & Team Development:
- Safety Compliance: You will ensure that health and safety rules and regulations are adhered to during the shift, dealing with all related matters using company resources in line with Health and Safety policy.
- Talent Growth: You will develop talent on the shop floor, identifying core competencies and providing coaching to enhance team skills.
- Culture: You will promote a culture of continuous improvement (Kaizen) and maintain high motivation levels in the workforce.
- Collaboration: You will work closely with peers and other stakeholders to ensure smooth cross-functional operations.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Education: B.E in Chemical, Mechanical, Production Engineering.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in a Paintshop (Automotive or 2 wheeler Manufacturing preferred), with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
Must-Have Competencies:
- Execute expert-level people management to lead and align the entire production team during shifts.
- Utilize advanced presentation and communication skills to share relevant information and updates with stakeholders.
- Apply advanced lean manufacturing and productivity improvement techniques to optimize workstation operations.
- Leverage advanced quality improvement tools and problem-solving methodologies like A3 and PDCA to achieve quality targets.
