Compensation

Annual Pay Range*: $31,070.48 - $39,084.93

Hourly Pay Range: $22.981132 - $28.908974

Salary offers will be made within the posted pay range and will be based on the candidate's experience (paid or unpaid) that is directly relevant to the position.

Job Details And Qualifications

Clackamas County’s Department of Finance is hiring a part-time Courier to deliver mail, materials, and supplies between departments. This position works 26 hours per week and suits individuals who enjoy active work, follow a structured schedule, and support essential county services.

Courier responsibilities include transporting confidential items such as legal documents, public health materials, and payroll records. Prioritize processing mail and operating sorting equipment. Also assist with warehouse and County Surplus operations and support staff by finding lost items and maintaining supplies.

We seek candidates with strong organizational skills, precise attention to detail, and a customer service mindset. Essential qualifications include trustworthiness, discretion with confidential materials, and a proven ability to drive safely in all traffic and weather conditions.

Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferable Skills:*

  • The ability to perform the essential functions of the job, which include strenuous physical labor, exposure to adverse weather conditions, and hazardous locations
  • Skill to operate assigned motor vehicles in a safe and efficient manner
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to read and interpret street maps
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county employees, other agencies, and the public

Preferred Special Qualifications/Transferable Skills:*

  • Experience working as a Courier driver
  • Experience delivering mail for an organization with several separate building locations
  • Experience working with confidential information
  • Experience working on mail processing equipment
  • Experience sorting mail for a large organization
  • Experience doing data entry in a computerized system
  • At least one year of experience driving a car or van-type vehicle
  • At least one year of experience driving a van-type vehicle with sensitive, confidential or fragile items
  • At least two years of experience working in a position that required good organizational skills
  • At least two years of experience working with detailed information and keeping track of it on a daily basis
  • At least two years of customer service experience
  • At least three years of experience working with the alphabet and numbers on a daily basis

TYPICAL TASKS

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Gathers, sorts, processes, transports, and delivers materials, mail, goods, and supplies to County departments and other agencies by hand or with machines. Follows an established time schedule. Operates mail or sorting machines. Transports sensitive items, including police and mental health case records, public health specimens, legal documents, and payroll or other checks. May perform routine troubleshooting and basic repair of automated sorting and processing machines.

Operates a van or similar motor vehicle between County buildings and public facilities in various traffic and weather conditions. Cleans and fuels vehicles as needed. Arranges for regular maintenance with County Motor Pool.

Responds to inquiries from County staff about Courier functions and schedule. Locate lost or misdirected items quickly.

Maintain miscellaneous supplies in the Courier office and vehicles.

Delivers general warehouse support as needed, moving and transporting materials and equipment. Assists County Surplus operations by shipping, receiving, loading, and unloading items. Transports materials between locations, ensuring safe and efficient handling.

WORK SCHEDULE

This position is included in the county’s alternate workweek program, working 26 hours during a standard workweek of Monday through Thursday (Fridays off). Specific hours of work will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended. This position is designated as on-site/in-person. It is expected that the selected candidate will perform duties at the specified on-site work location.

This position is designated as essential and may be required to report to or remain at work during inclement weather, major emergencies, or disasters when other employees are excused. Individuals in this role help ensure vital county services continue and may be asked to remain on duty or report to work as directed by their supervisor. In emergencies, employees may also be temporarily assigned related duties to support critical operations.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Duties driving a motor vehicle may involve exposure to adverse weather conditions and traffic hazards.

Duties require frequent grasping, stepping up and down, twisting, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, carry 25 pounds, push 75 pounds, and pull 100 pounds.

Employees must work a minimum of 30 hours per week to receive full benefits. Employees working 20 - 29 hours per week are eligible for medical benefits for themselves and family members. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Clackamas County’s Facilities Management Division supports county operations by providing safe, secure, sustainable, and well-maintained facilities that enable the effective delivery of public services. The division is responsible for the stewardship of county-owned and leased buildings and infrastructure, ensuring that employees, residents, and visitors have access to functional and reliable spaces.

Facilities Management maintains more than 1.2 million square feet across over 100 owned and leased facilities, from small service sites to major public buildings. Services include preventive and corrective maintenance, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, janitorial, landscaping, utilities and energy management, security and access control, fire and life-safety compliance, lease administration, space planning, construction and capital improvement projects, warehouse and logistics support, mail and courier operations, and 24/7 emergency response.

Through a comprehensive maintenance program, service request system, and coordination of specialized contract services, the division protects county assets, improves operational efficiency, and supports a safe and sustainable environment for county staff and the community.
