Senior BI Developer

The BI Developer designs, builds, and supports enterprise reporting and semantic layers across Power BI, SAP BusinessObjects, Denodo, and SAP HANA/BW. The role delivers high quality dashboards and reports, optimizes performance, manages platform operations (workspaces, scheduling, promotions), and integrates data from HANA, SQL Server, and Microsoft 365 sources (including Excel). The developer partners closely with business stakeholders and Infrastructure and Basis teams to ensure reliable production operations, smooth cutovers, and governed releases, while mentoring junior engineers and championing best practices.

Key Responsibilities

1) Solution Delivery & Reporting

• Translate business requirements into performant Power BI datasets, reports, and dashboards using best practice modeling and DAX.
• Develop and enhance BOBJ reports and universes (including multi-source strategies) with a focus on accuracy, usability, and maintainability.
• Create and refine SAP HANA calculation/analytic views supporting BO/Power BI consumption; validate data lineage and reconcile results.
• Build Denodo virtualized datasets/views (e.g., centralized Inventory) integrating HANA, MS SQL Server, and Excel sources.
  

• Administer Power BI Service (workspaces, apps, access, refresh schedules, capacity-aware practices).
• Administer BOBJ (user management, promotion management, scheduler monitoring); coordinate deployments and promotions across tiers.
• Support SAP BW data flows (InfoPackages, InfoObjects, ADSOs, DTPs, Transformations, Process Chains) and enhance pipelines where source is MS SQL.
• Partner with Infrastructure/Basis for maintenance windows, production cutovers, upgrades, and incident resolution.
  

• Enhance report performance (query folding, model optimization, caching strategies, efficient universes/HANA views).
• Integrate Power Automate, Power ON, and Inforiver with Power BI to enable writeback, workflows, and advanced analytics/visuals.
• Leverage Fabric Lakehouse and Data Pipelines (where applicable) to modernize data footprints and streamline refresh/reliability.
  

• Maintain high-quality documentation (data dictionaries, runbooks, lineage diagrams, promotion steps).
• Contribute to change/release management; ensure traceability, approvals, and rollback plans.
  

• Build new reports/dashboards; enhance legacy assets; optimize performance and DAX.
• Govern workspaces/apps, dataset refreshes, RLS/OLS, and user access.
• Implement integrations: Power Automate, Power ON, Inforiver.
• Familiarity with Fabric Lakehouse and Data Pipelines for data ingestion and modeling.
  

• Build new reports for business functions; refactor legacy assets.
• Migrate BW Universe-based reports to HANA View sources.
• Develop reports with multiple data sources; implement Data Federation/IDT where needed.
• Perform admin tasks: user management, promotion management, scheduler/instance monitoring.
  

• Design and manage virtualized datasets (e.g., centralized Inventory).
• Integrate HANA, MS SQL, Excel; apply security, caching, and performance tuning.
  

• Create/enhance views to support BO/BI needs.
• Validate data accuracy with robust backtracking and reconciliation practices.
  

• Work with InfoPackages, InfoObjects, ADSOs, DTPs, Transformations, Process Chains.
• Enhance data flows where source is ABAP.
• Collaborate with Basis during cutovers and deployments.
  

• Power BI (Desktop & Service): Data modeling (star schema, role-playing dimensions), DAX, query folding, incremental refresh, workspace/app governance, RLS/OLS, refresh troubleshooting, performance optimization.
• SAP BusinessObjects (BOBJ): Report development (WebI/Crystal as applicable), Universe design (IDT/UDT), multi-source strategies, scheduling/bursting, instance monitoring, promotion management, audit awareness.
• Denodo: View design (base/derived), data source integration (HANA, MS SQL, Excel), role-based security, caching strategies, VCS integration, performance monitoring.
• SAP HANA: Calculation/analytic views, SQLScript basics, performance tuning, consumption patterns for BO/Power BI.
• SAP BW: ADSOs, transformations, DTPs, process chains, monitoring, reconciliation; enhancing ABAP sourced flows.
• Scripting & Tools: T SQL, basic PowerShell or shell scripting; Git based source control; exposure to CI/CD for analytics assets.
• Data Quality & Validation: Strong reconciliation, lineage tracking, and documentation discipline.
  

• Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Data Pipelines), Datamarts.
• Power ON writeback design patterns; Inforiver advanced visuals and templates.
• BO Data Federation and Information Design Tool (IDT) best practices.
• Denodo advanced security, data masking, and cost/performance governance.
• Automation for BO promotions and Power BI deployments (e.g., Azure DevOps/GitHub Actions, REST APIs).
• Observability/monitoring: BO auditing, Denodo diagnostic tools, Power BI metrics, HANA performance views.
