The Senior Data & Analytics Platform Engineer designs, builds, and supports data and analytics solutions across enterprise platforms-primarily MS SQL Server, Denodo, Power BI, Business Objects, and the POS application stack. The role spans development, administration, and production support, partnering closely with D&A, Infrastructure, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, performant applications and data products. The engineer mentors junior team members, drives engineering best practices, and contributes to continuous improvement, change management, and release processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Solution Delivery
- Design, develop, test, and deliver technical solutions to agreed scope, cost, and schedule.
- Implement robust data models, views, and integrations across SQL Server, Denodo, Power BI, and Business Objects.
- Collaboration & Ways of Working
- Operate autonomously and within cross-functional teams spanning D&A, Infrastructure, and business stakeholders.
- Translate business requirements into secure, scalable, well-documented technical designs.
- Quality & Reliability
- Maintain quality, reliability, and availability of production applications and analytics platforms.
- Participate in incident/major incident resolution, root cause analysis, and preventive actions.
- Platform Operations
- Coordinate with Infrastructure for maintenance windows, patching, upgrades, and verification.
- Contribute to and follow change, release, and configuration management processes.
- Mentorship & Standards
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers; promote code reviews, branching strategies, observability, and documentation standards.
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to optimize performance, cost, and developer productivity.
- Stay current with platform roadmaps and evolving technologies used across the organization.
Specific Areas of Responsibility
- POS System - Development, support, and administration of POS application components and integrations.
- Power BI - Dataset/report development, workspace/app administration, capacity management, and production support.
- Denodo - Data virtualization development and administration: view design, data source integration, security, and platform operations.
- Business Objects - Universe/report development, scheduling, instance management, and backup administration.
Required Technical Skills
- MS SQL Server: Advanced SQL, performance tuning, indexing strategies, ETL patterns, stored procedures, query optimization.
- MS Visual C++ / Visual Basic: Hands-on application/programming experience (maintenance and feature development).
- Denodo (Dev & Admin): Base/derived view design, data source virtualization, caching, VCS integration, role-based security, monitoring, and operations.
- Power BI (Dev & Support): Semantic modeling, DAX, incremental refresh, performance tuning, workspace/app governance, RLS/OLS, deployment pipelines.
- Business Objects (Dev & Admin): Universe design (UDT/IDT), report development, scheduling/bursting, instance monitoring and lifecycle management.
- Linux: Working knowledge; light shell scripting for automation and operations.
- PowerShell: Working knowledge; light scripting for admin tasks and CI/CD automation.
Preferred/Bonus Skills
- CI/CD for analytics (Azure DevOps/GitHub Actions) and source control best practices (Git).
- Observability/monitoring (e.g., SQL DMVs, Denodo monitoring tools, Power BI metrics, BO auditing).
- Exposure to API integrations and messaging for POS-related workflows.
- Security and compliance (data privacy, least-privilege, audit trails).
- Experience with capacity planning and cost governance for analytics platforms.
