Job Description – DevOps Intern (CI/CD, Automation & Platform Engineering)
We are seeking a driven and curious DevOps Intern to support our CI/CD, automation, and
infrastructure initiatives. This role is designed for individuals who are eager to understand how
systems work end-to-end—from code to deployment environments.
The intern will gain hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization, cloud and onprem
environments, and DevOps performance metrics (DORA). This role requires a proactive
mindset, willingness to learn, and the ability to contribute in a fast-paced engineering
environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support CI/CD, automation, and tooling for AI-assisted software development and modern
- Identify repetitive manual tasks and develop simple automation solutions using shell or Python
- Monitor system health, CI/CD pipelines, logs, and deployment outcomes to identify and
- Contribute to release processes including versioning, tagging, artifact generation, and
- Communicate progress, issues, and deployment status effectively with engineering teams and
- Assist in rollback handling and basic troubleshooting during releases
- Track and report DORA metrics (deployment frequency, lead time, change failure rate, MTTR)
- Help identify opportunities to improve deployment efficiency, reliability, and developer
- Assist in implementing DevSecOps practices including SAST, dependency scanning, and
- Work with Git workflows including branching, merge requests, and version control best
- Assist in managing build artifacts, container images, and package repositories
- Gain exposure to and support tasks involving virtual machines, cloud infrastructure, and
- Support packaging and submission activities for applications to the Microsoft ecosystem (e.g.,
- Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, and IT teams to support day-to-day operations and
- Create and maintain technical documentation for automation, deployments, and operational
Core Learning Areas
During the internship, the candidate will gain practical exposure to:
- Linux systems, command-line tools, and server administration fundamentals
- Virtual machines and on-premises server environments
- Containerization using Docker
- CI/CD platforms: GitLab (repositories, merge requests, CI/CD pipelines and runners)
- Cloud-hosted infrastructure: Azure (primary), with exposure to AWS where applicable
- Basic DevSecOps practices and secure development workflows
- DevOps metrics and performance tracking (DORA metrics)
- Microsoft services and ecosystem relevant to application deployment
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Basic understanding of DevOps principles and CI/CD concepts
- Basic understanding of Linux operating systems and command-line tools.
- Familiarity with Git and version control workflows
- Exposure to any CI/CD platform (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
- Basic scripting knowledge (Python, Bash, or similar) with an interest in automation
- Foundational understanding of infrastructure concepts (virtual machines, containers, cloud vs
- Demonstrated curiosity, self-learning ability, and willingness to explore unfamiliar
- Comfortable working in a dynamic environment where priorities may evolve and continuous
- Willingness to take ownership of assigned tasks, follow them through to completion, and seek
Nice To Have
- Exposure to Docker or container-based deployments
- Awareness of DORA metrics or DevOps performance concepts
- Basic understanding of software security practices (SAST, dependency scanning, etc.)
- Familiarity with Azure or other cloud platforms
- Interest in AI-assisted development workflows
- Curious and proactive—eager to understand how systems work beyond just completing tasks
- Automation-first mindset with interest in reducing manual effort through scripting and tooling
- Strong problem-solving attitude and willingness to debug and troubleshoot issues
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tools, technologies, and environments
- Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical
