The Department of Thoracic Surgery is one of the foremost thoracic units in the UK, providing specialist services to a population of 2.2 million across the West of Scotland. The service is recognised for its leadership in minimally invasive thoracic surgery and is home to one of the largest robotic thoracic surgery programmes in the UK, with over 1,900 robotic procedures performed to date.
The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Locum Consultant Thoracic Surgeon to join our established team for a fixed-term period of six months. This post has been created to support continued service growth and increasing demand within the department. The successful candidate will join a team delivering the full spectrum of thoracic surgical services within a modern, high-performing and innovative environment.
Applicants must be fully trained in adult thoracic surgery with significant experience in Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) lobectomy. You should be on the GMC Specialist Register or be eligible for inclusion and demonstrate a commitment to high-quality patient care, education, clinical governance and multidisciplinary team working.
The successful applicant will have opportunities to contribute to teaching, training, research and service development. NHS Golden Jubilee has strong links with universities across Scotland and supports an extensive programme of clinical research, innovation and quality improvement.
Essential
What You'll Bring
- MBChB or equivalent qualification.
- FRCS or equivalent.
- Full GMC Registration.
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register.
- Fully trained in adult thoracic surgery.
- Extensive experience in VATS Lobectomy.
- Excellent communication and multidisciplinary team working skills.
- Commitment to teaching and clinical supervision.
- Evidence of clinical audit and evidence-based practice.
- Higher research degree (MSc, MD or PhD).
- Recent NHS experience.
- Ability to independently perform robotic lung resections.
- Experience of clinical research and publications.
- Experience with clinical IT systems.
