Sales & Use Tax
- Provide sales and use tax compliance data to support Return filing.
- Identify tax savings opportunities, refund claims, and exposure risks through taxability reviews and data analysis.
- Review large volumes of transactional data and validate data in tax databases.
- Perform use tax reconciliations and support audit defense and notice responses.
- Conduct extensive tax research on product and service taxability across multiple U.S. jurisdictions.
- Determine exemption applicability using authoritative sources such as CCH, State Tax Notes, Department of Revenue (DOR) guidance, and tax management systems.
- Document research conclusions clearly to support client recommendations and compliance decisions.
- Stay current with changes in sales, use, and excise tax regulations.
- Manage excise tax compliance with a focus on motor fuel taxation.
- Prepare, review, and file federal and state excise tax returns accurately and timely.
- Handle amendments, refund claims (including off-highway fuel use), and responses to tax notices.
- Prepare and file Heavy Vehicle Use Tax and manage IFTA filings across jurisdictions.
- Utilize tax automation platforms such as Power query and Power BI to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Perform invoice extraction, data validation, and scheduling for compliance and consulting projects.
- Leverage MS Excel and MS Access for data analysis, reconciliation, and reporting.
- Support data extraction and transformation initiatives for large-scale tax projects.
- Manage assigned projects efficiently, meeting timelines and quality standards.
- Maintain proactive status communication with U.S./India stakeholders.
- Assist team members with technical analysis, data preparation, and client deliverables.
- Support engagement coordination across multiple industries.
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, LLB or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in indirect tax, with hands-on exposure to sales, use, and excise tax.
- Strong knowledge of multi-state U.S. sales and use tax laws.
- Experience with motor fuel tax compliance and excise tax filings preferred.
