IBM WebSphere Liberty Engineer

We are looking for an experienced IBM WebSphere Liberty Engineer to design, configure, deploy, administer, and support Java applications running on IBM WebSphere Application Server Liberty/Open Liberty. The role will involve application server administration, deployment automation, performance tuning, troubleshooting, security, and integration with modern DevOps and container platforms. Liberty is a lightweight Java runtime designed for modern monolithic applications and microservices and supports MicroProfile and Jakarta EE.
Key Responsibilities
Install, configure, administer, and maintain IBM WebSphere Liberty environments.
Deploy and manage Java/Jakarta EE and MicroProfile applications on Liberty.
Configure Liberty server.xml, features, applications, data sources, JDBC, JMS, SSL, and security.
Perform application deployments, upgrades, patches, and configuration changes.
Troubleshoot application, server, JVM, connectivity, and deployment issues.
Monitor Liberty logs, JVM performance, memory utilization, threads, and application health.
Configure SSL/TLS, LDAP, JAAS, SSO, authentication, and authorization.
Manage Liberty application server environments across Development, QA, UAT, and Production.
Support migration of applications from traditional WebSphere Application Server to Liberty.
Automate deployments using Jenkins, GitLab, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or similar tools.
Work with Docker/Kubernetes/OpenShift for containerized Liberty deployments. IBM supports Liberty deployments on Kubernetes and provides a WebSphere Liberty Operator for application management.
Configure and troubleshoot Liberty clusters and high-availability environments where applicable.
Perform performance tuning and capacity analysis for Liberty/JVM workloads.
Implement monitoring, logging, metrics, and tracing using enterprise observability tools.
Participate in incident management, root-cause analysis, and production support.
Prepare technical documentation, deployment procedures, and operational runbooks.
Required Skills
5–10+ years of experience in WebSphere Application Server administration/support.
Strong hands-on experience with IBM WebSphere Liberty / Open Liberty.
Strong knowledge of Java/Jakarta EE, MicroProfile, REST APIs, and Spring Boot.
Experience with Liberty configuration including server.xml, feature management, applications, data sources, JDBC, JMS, and SSL.
Strong knowledge of JVM configuration, heap, garbage collection, thread dumps, and heap dumps.
Experience with Linux/Unix administration and shell scripting.
Strong troubleshooting and production-support experience.
Knowledge of LDAP, SSL/TLS, authentication, authorization, and SSO.
Experience with Maven/Gradle and Git.
Experience with CI/CD and DevOps automation.
Good understanding of application server architecture and enterprise Java environments.
Preferred Skills
Experience with Kubernetes/OpenShift.
Experience with Docker/containerization.
Knowledge of WebSphere Liberty Operator.
Experience migrating applications from WebSphere Traditional to Liberty.
Experience with IBM MQ/JMS.
Knowledge of Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Splunk, or OpenTelemetry.
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or IBM Cloud.
Knowledge of Terraform/Ansible for infrastructure automation.
Experience with WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment.
