Senior SEO Manager
Thornwell Media
Compensation: C$36,000–C$42,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications
The Opportunity
Thornwell Media supports multiple technology-enabled and service-based brands. We are looking for a Senior SEO Manager to improve organic visibility, qualified website traffic, inquiries and online reputation across several company websites.
This is a senior, hands-on role covering technical SEO, content, local search, SERP strategy, online reputation management and AI-assisted search.
Advanced AI capability is essential. We need someone who can build reliable AI-assisted research, content, analysis and reporting workflows—not someone whose AI experience is limited to generating basic blog posts with ChatGPT.
Documentation is also a core part of this position. Every company must have its own documented SEO strategy, standards, procedures and workflows so the work can be reviewed, repeated and eventually assigned to additional team members.
What You’ll Own
- Create, execute and document a separate SEO strategy for each company.
- Build a complete SEO playbook for each brand covering priorities, target audiences, search opportunities, content standards and performance measures.
- Create SOPs for keyword research, SERP analysis, content production, on-page optimization, internal linking, local SEO, link building, reputation management and reporting.
- Document keyword-to-page maps, topic clusters, website structures and content calendars.
- Build reusable templates, checklists, approval processes and quality-control standards.
- Document AI prompts, brand instructions and AI-assisted SEO workflows separately for each company.
- Conduct technical, on-page, off-page and content SEO audits.
- Research keywords, search intent, competitors and SERP opportunities.
- Personally write or substantially edit blogs, articles, service pages, location pages and landing pages.
- Build content clusters and internal-linking structures.
- Identify crawling, indexing, duplicate-content, redirect, sitemap, canonical and website-performance issues.
- Create clear implementation requirements for developers and confirm that fixes were completed correctly.
- Manage Google Business Profiles, local visibility, citations and reviews.
- Monitor branded search results, negative content and online reputation risks.
- Develop ethical strategies to strengthen branded SERPs and reduce the visibility of negative or outdated content.
- Create documented procedures for review responses, negative search results and serious reputation issues.
- Improve visibility across Google, Bing, AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot and other AI-assisted search experiences.
- Review backlink profiles and develop credible authority-building opportunities.
- Use AI for research, content planning, analysis, optimization, reporting and workflow automation.
- Track rankings, qualified traffic, leads, conversions, local visibility and reputation changes.
- Produce clear reports showing completed work, results, risks and priorities.
- Keep all strategies, SOPs and records current as search platforms, websites and business priorities change.
- Five or more years of hands-on SEO experience.
- Experience managing SEO for several websites, brands or client accounts.
- Experience working with technology, technology-enabled or service-based companies.
- Demonstrated success improving organic rankings, qualified traffic or leads.
- Strong technical, on-page, off-page, local and content SEO knowledge.
- Experience analyzing SERPs, competitors, keywords and search intent.
- Professional English-language writing and editing ability.
- Experience writing blogs, articles, service pages, location pages and landing pages.
- Practical online reputation management experience involving branded SERPs, reviews and negative search results.
- Experience with Google Search Console, Google Analytics 4 and Google Business Profile.
- Experience with Ahrefs, Semrush, Screaming Frog, Bing Webmaster Tools or comparable platforms.
- Advanced experience using AI for SEO research, content, analysis, reporting and repeatable workflows.
- Ability to identify hallucinations, weak sources and generic or low-quality AI content.
- Experience creating SEO strategies, SOPs, playbooks, templates, checklists and quality-control procedures.
- Ability to document work clearly enough for another employee or provider to follow.
- Experience coordinating with developers, writers, designers or external providers.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize work across multiple companies.
What Success Looks Like
Each company has a clear, separate and documented SEO strategy. Technical and indexing problems are resolved, content begins ranking for commercially valuable searches, local visibility improves and organic traffic produces more qualified inquiries.
Branded search results become stronger and more accurate, reputation risks are addressed promptly and AI increases production capacity without reducing quality.
Every major SEO activity has an updated SOP, template or checklist. Another qualified employee should be able to understand each company’s strategy, follow the documented process and produce work that meets the required standard.
Reporting clearly shows what was completed, what changed, what results followed and what should happen next.
Who Will Succeed
The right person understands that SEO is not simply publishing blogs or adding keywords. You can diagnose technical problems, analyze search behaviour, create strong content, improve authority and make decisions using performance data.
You can turn your knowledge into organized systems instead of keeping the process in your head. You document decisions, maintain clear records and build workflows that other people can follow.
You can work independently across several websites without applying the same strategy to every company. You also understand that legitimate SEO professionals cannot guarantee page-one rankings, remove every negative result or guarantee placement in AI-generated answers.
How to Apply
Apply with your resume and an accessible SEO portfolio or case-study link.
Your work samples should identify the websites or brands you managed, your personal contribution, relevant writing samples, problems you addressed and measurable results. Include an example of an advanced AI-assisted SEO workflow and an SEO SOP, playbook, template or documented process you personally created.
Confidential information may be removed, but your ownership and results must be clear. Ensure the link can be opened without a login or access request.
If your background and work samples align with the position, you’ll receive an email within 24–48 hours with a link to complete a short pre-recorded video interview.
