We are looking for an experienced Microsoft SQL Database Administrator (SQL DBA) with strong hands-on expertise in managing, troubleshooting, and optimizing Microsoft SQL Server environments.
Approximately 90% of the environment is Microsoft SQL Server, with a significant number of databases running on SQL Server 2012 R2, SQL Server 2014, and other legacy versions.
The immediate priority for this role is to assess the health and stability of the existing database environment, identify risks and performance gaps, and provide actionable recommendations.
The DBA will also provide hands-on emergency production support for critical database issues.
This role requires someone who can quickly understand an existing environment, independently diagnose database issues, prioritize risks, and recommend practical remediation or modernization actions.
Database Health & Assessment

Conduct comprehensive health checks across Microsoft SQL Server databases.

Assess database performance, availability, configuration, capacity, security, and overall operational health.

Identify performance bottlenecks, configuration issues, capacity risks, backup/recovery gaps, and potential points of failure.

Review databases running on SQL Server 2012 R2, SQL Server 2014, and other legacy versions.

Identify risks associated with unsupported or older SQL Server versions and recommend appropriate upgrade or migration paths.

Provide a prioritized health assessment and remediation roadmap covering immediate, medium-term, and long-term recommendations.

Provide L2/L3 production support for Microsoft SQL Server environments.

Respond to critical and emergency database incidents and troubleshoot issues related to:

Database availability

Performance degradation

Blocking and deadlocks

High CPU / memory utilization
-
Query performance
-
Connectivity issues
-
Backup and restore failures
-
Database corruption
-
Storage and capacity issues

SQL Agent jobs and maintenance failures

Perform root-cause analysis and recommend preventive and corrective actions.

Support emergency troubleshooting and resolution of database issues within defined SLAs.

Perform SQL Server performance tuning and optimization.

Analyze execution plans, indexes, queries, wait statistics, and server-level performance metrics.

Review and optimize database configuration and maintenance practices.

Assess and improve backup, recovery, HA/DR, monitoring, and maintenance strategies.

Identify opportunities to improve database reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.

Support Microsoft SQL Server databases hosted in or integrated with AWS environments.

Work with relevant AWS services such as EC2, RDS, S3, and CloudWatch, where applicable.

Support database migration, modernization, or cloud-readiness initiatives.

Collaborate with Cloud/Infrastructure teams on database-related AWS requirements.
Must-Have Skills

6+ years of hands-on Microsoft SQL Server DBA experience.

Strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server administration and production support.

Experience working across multiple SQL Server versions, particularly SQL Server 2012/2012 R2, 2014, and newer versions.

Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning capabilities.

Experience with Always On Availability Groups.

Exposure to AWS RDS for SQL Server.

Experience with AWS DMS or database migration projects.

PowerShell or other scripting/automation experience.

Experience with database monitoring tools.

Exposure to infrastructure/cloud security and compliance practices.
