Business Development Manager
2070Health
About 2070 Health
2070 Health is India's first venture studio, established by W Health Ventures. It builds healthcare companies from scratch by identifying gaps in the market that remain unserved. Unlike an accelerator, the studio is directly involved in idea generation, daily operations, and strategic decisions as each company grows. Companies established in the last 24 months include Elevate Now, Nivaan Care, Reveal Healthtech, BabyMD, Everhope Oncology, and Everbright Health.
About Xponentiate
Xponentiate is a healthcare-focused executive search and talent firm, backed by W Health Ventures and 2070 Health. We place senior leadership across healthtech startups, hospitals, and healthcare VCs, drawing on a network of 250,000+ healthcare professionals. As the firm scales, business development is moving from a founder-led activity to a dedicated function — and this role is the person who builds and owns it.
About the Role
The Business Development Manager owns Xponentiate's BD function end to end — from building and running the outbound engine that generates pipeline, through to pitching, negotiating, and closing new search mandates. This is not a role plugged into someone else's process. You build the machine, run it, and are accountable for what it produces in signed mandates and revenue.
You will work closely with the founder and the research and delivery teams, but the origination motion — who to target, how to reach them, and how to close them — is yours to design and run.
What the Role Owns
- Outbound infrastructure. Owning lead sourcing (Apollo), cold email infrastructure and deliverability (via platforms such as Instantly), and list-building against defined ICPs — healthtech founders, hospital CHROs, and healthcare VCs, across verticals such as fertility, cardiology, biotech, dermatology, and clinical trials.
- Pipeline generation. Running multi-touch outbound sequences across email and LinkedIn that convert cold contacts into qualified conversations.
- Full-cycle selling. Pitching Xponentiate's services, leading client meetings and presentations, and negotiating commercial terms on retained and engaged search mandates through to signature.
- Client relationships. Building and maintaining relationships with CXOs, CHROs, Talent Acquisition heads, founders, and healthcare VCs, including within the 2070 Health and W Health Ventures portfolio.
- Delivery handoff. Working closely with the research and delivery team once a mandate is signed, to ensure a clean handover and protect the relationship through execution.
- Pipeline reporting. Maintaining an accurate CRM (e.g. Airtable), forecasting, and reporting business performance to leadership.
Working with AI Tools
This role is expected to use AI tools as a default part of the workflow, not as an occasional add-on. That includes using LLMs such as Claude or ChatGPT for account research and personalized outreach rather than generic templates, and using AI features inside outbound and CRM tools to speed up list-building, enrichment, and reporting.
Scope of Work
The role covers two areas, introduced in sequence as the function matures.
- New mandate acquisition, as the starting point. Building and running the outbound engine, prospecting healthtech founders and hospital CHROs, and closing new client mandates for Xponentiate's core executive search business.
- Portfolio and investor network expansion, at a later stage. Deepening relationships across the 2070 Health and W Health Ventures portfolio to generate repeat and referred mandates.
Working Model
This is a build-and-run role rather than a seat in an existing playbook. Expect direct access to leadership, ownership of the function from day one, and accountability measured against pipeline built and mandates closed rather than daily activity.
Growth Path
This starts as a single-owner function: you build it, you run it, you close on it. As pipeline and signed mandates scale, the role is expected to grow into building and leading Xponentiate's business development team.
Requirements
- 4–7 years of experience in business development or sales, ideally within executive search, recruitment/staffing, or another B2B services business with a comparable sales cycle.
- A proven track record of originating and closing new client relationships, not only managing inbound or existing accounts.
- Comfort owning outbound infrastructure directly (tools such as Apollo, Instantly or Smartlead, LinkedIn, and a CRM such as Airtable or HubSpot), or the ability to learn and run it hands-on rather than delegate it.
- Demonstrated use of AI tools in your day-to-day work.
- Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to pitch confidently to CXOs, founders, and investors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior exposure to healthcare, healthtech, or life sciences clients.
- Experience selling into venture-backed or founder-led organizations.
- Familiarity with retained or engaged executive search commercial models.
This Role Is Not a Fit If
- You have only worked in a purely client-servicing or delivery role, with no origination or closing experience.
- You need an established playbook and a built-out team in place before you can operate.
- You are looking for a narrow, single-channel role — only outbound, or only closing — rather than owning the full function.
