Project Lead - MEPF

Position Overview
The MEPF (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing & Fire Protection) Lead plays a critical role in JLL's Projects & Development Services, providing technical leadership and oversight for building systems across the project lifecycle. This position ensures that MEP/FP installations meet client requirements, comply with codes and standards, and are delivered on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Design Oversight
Provide technical leadership for all MEPF systems throughout project planning, design, construction, and commissioning phases. Review and approve design drawings, specifications, and calculations to ensure compliance with building codes, industry standards, and client requirements. Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, and other design consultants to integrate MEPF systems effectively into overall building design.
Project Management & Coordination
Lead MEPF scope definition, budget development, and scheduling for projects ranging from tenant improvements to ground-up construction. Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure proper installation and system integration. Conduct regular site visits to monitor construction progress, verify quality, and resolve technical issues.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
Ensure all MEPF installations comply with local, state, and federal regulations including building codes, energy codes, and safety standards. Review submittals, shop drawings, and product data for conformance with design intent and specifications. Oversee testing, balancing, and commissioning activities to verify system performance.
Client & Stakeholder Management
Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients on MEPF matters. Present design options, value engineering alternatives, and technical recommendations to clients and stakeholders. Prepare technical reports, progress updates, and presentations for client meetings.
Risk Management & Problem Solving
Identify potential technical risks and develop mitigation strategies throughout the project lifecycle. Resolve design conflicts, construction issues, and system performance problems efficiently. Manage change orders and assess their impact on project scope, schedule, and budget.
Team Development & Collaboration
Mentor junior engineers and technical staff on MEPF best practices and standards. Collaborate with JLL's multidisciplinary project teams including project managers, cost consultants, and sustainability advisors. Support business development efforts through technical proposal preparation and client presentations.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Plumbing Engineering (or related field). Minimum 8-10 years of experience in MEPF design, construction, or project management within commercial real estate, preferably in consulting or owner's representation roles. Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred or required depending on jurisdiction.
Technical Expertise
Deep knowledge of HVAC, electrical power distribution, lighting systems, plumbing, and fire protection systems. Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents. Understanding of building energy codes, sustainability standards (LEED, WELL, etc.), and life safety codes. Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS/BMS) and energy management strategies.
Project & Business Skills
Strong project management capabilities with experience managing multiple concurrent projects. Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, and resources effectively. Excellent communication and presentation skills for technical and non-technical audiences. Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Software & Tools
Proficiency with MS Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint. Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or other design software beneficial. Experience with project management tools and document control systems.
Preferred Qualifications
LEED AP, CEM (Certified Energy Manager), or CxA (Commissioning Authority) certification. Experience with data centers, healthcare facilities, laboratory environments, or other mission-critical facilities. Knowledge of smart building technologies, IoT integration, and building analytics platforms. Experience working on corporate workplace, life sciences, or industrial projects.
Working Conditions
Position requires regular site visits to active construction sites (PPE required). Occasional travel to project sites, client meetings, and industry events. Office-based work with flexible hybrid arrangements depending on location. Standard business hours with occasional extended hours during critical project phases.
