What this job involves
The Senior MEP Construction Manager oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems across multiple construction projects.
This role requires deep technical expertise in MEP systems integration, managing specialized contractors and engineers while ensuring compliance with codes, standards, and project specifications. The position serves as the primary technical authority for MEP construction activities, coordinating with general contractors, design teams, and clients to deliver complex building systems on schedule and within budget.
Lead MEP construction activities across multiple projects, coordinating system installations, and ensuring integration between mechanical, electrical, and plumbing components.
Manage relationships with MEP subcontractors, specialty contractors, and equipment suppliers, including bid evaluation, contract negotiation, performance monitoring, and quality assurance oversight.
Conduct technical design reviews, shop drawing approvals, and submittal evaluations to ensure MEP systems comply with project specifications, building codes, and industry standards.
Coordinate MEP installations with structural and architectural elements, resolving conflicts through field coordination meetings, BIM clash detection, and collaborative problem-solving with project teams.
Oversee MEP system commissioning, testing, and startup procedures, ensuring proper operation, performance verification, and compliance with warranty requirements before project handover.
Monitor MEP project budgets, track costs against estimates, manage change orders for system modifications, and provide financial reporting on MEP-specific project elements.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental codes, energy efficiency standards, and local jurisdiction requirements while conducting regular inspections and quality control assessments of MEP installations.

Interested? An ideal candidate would need to have the following qualifications
Required
Minimum 10 years of MEP construction management experience with demonstrated progression in responsibility and project complexity
Minimum 5 years in a leadership role managing MEP contractors, budgets exceeding $10M, and complex multi-disciplinary projects
Proven experience with large-scale MEP installations including chillers, boilers, emergency power systems, fire protection, and advanced building automation
Experience working with major general contractors, design-build teams, and integrated project delivery methods
Experience managing projects through full lifecycle from pre-construction planning through closeout and warranty phases
Previous experience in MEP consulting, commissioning, or owner's representation roles preferred
Track record managing MEP installations through design development, construction, commissioning, and post-occupancy phases
Expert knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems design, installation, and commissioning processes
Advanced understanding of mechanical and electrical codes including ASHRAE, NEC, IBC, NFPA, and local jurisdiction requirements
Strong knowledge of energy management systems, building automation controls, and sustainable MEP technologies including LEED requirements
Expertise in MEP commissioning processes, testing protocols, and startup procedures for complex building systems
Knowledge of prefabrication techniques, modular construction methods, and off-site MEP assembly processes
Understanding of equipment procurement, vendor management, and long-lead item coordination for specialized MEP components
Preferred
Background managing MEP systems in specialized facilities such as hospitals, data centers, laboratories, or manufacturing environments
Experience with MEP cost estimating, value engineering, and life-cycle cost analysis for building systems
Knowledge of building information modeling (BIM) coordination and clash detection processes
Understanding of sustainable building practices, LEED certification processes, and green construction methodologies
