Project Manager - Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Construction

DEMO S.A., one of the leading pharmaceutical manufacturers in Europe, is looking for a Project Manager – Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Construction to join its team in Thessaloniki, Greece.

The role will be responsible for leading construction and infrastructure projects for pharmaceutical production facilities, ensuring that works are delivered safely, on time, within budget and in line with GMP, technical and operational requirements.

This is a hands-on project leadership role for a Chemical Engineer or Mechanical Engineer with strong experience in pharmaceutical production facility construction, capable of coordinating in-house technical teams as well as external contractors, vendors and multinational project stakeholders.

Main duties and responsibilities:

• Act as the key point of contact and responsible leader for the setup, organization and operational readiness of pharmaceutical production facility construction projects in Thessaloniki.
• Lead pharmaceutical manufacturing construction projects from planning and design coordination through execution, handover and operational readiness.
• Coordinate construction activities related to GMP production areas, cleanrooms, technical rooms, utilities, HVAC, mechanical systems, piping, electrical works and supporting infrastructure.
• Manage day-to-day project execution, timelines, priorities, budgets, risks, issues and progress reporting.
• Lead and coordinate in-house technical crews, ensuring clear work allocation, supervision, safety compliance and alignment with project milestones.
• Manage outsourced contractors, engineering partners, suppliers and installation teams, ensuring quality of work, schedule adherence and effective collaboration across diverse and multinational teams.
• Work closely with Engineering, Production, Quality Assurance, Validation, EHS, Procurement and external consultants to ensure that construction activities meet pharmaceutical manufacturing requirements.
• Review technical drawings, specifications, method statements, project schedules and contractor deliverables, escalating risks or deviations where needed.
• Support GMP-compliant facility design principles, including personnel and material flows, cleanroom requirements, environmental controls, pressure cascades and utilities readiness.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, internal procedures, construction regulations and applicable GMP expectations throughout project execution.
• Support commissioning, qualification, handover documentation and closure of pending actions in collaboration with the relevant technical and quality teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
• At least 15 years of experience in a similar construction, engineering or project management role within pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, cleanrooms, GMP environments or highly regulated industrial facilities.
• Strong understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing infrastructure, including HVAC, utilities, mechanical systems, cleanroom areas, production layouts and technical installations.
• Proven ability to lead in-house technical crews and coordinate outsourced contractors, vendors and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Experience working with diverse and multinational stakeholders, with the ability to communicate effectively across different cultures, functions and seniority levels.
• Good knowledge of project management principles, construction scheduling, budget monitoring, risk management and technical documentation.
• Familiarity with GMP requirements, commissioning, qualification, validation support and construction handover documentation will be considered an asset.
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, negotiation and decision-making skills in fast-paced project environments.
• Excellent command of English, both written and verbal.
• Availability to work on site in Thessaloniki, Greece.
