JOB DESCRIPTION – NEPHROLOGIST
Department: Nephrology
Position: Consultant Nephrologist
Reporting To: Medical Superintendent / Head of Department
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
- Diagnose and manage patients with acute and chronic kidney diseases.
- Evaluate and treat Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) and Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).
- Manage hypertension, electrolyte disorders, acid-base abnormalities, and fluid imbalance.
- Provide comprehensive care for patients requiring hemodialysis and renal replacement therapy.
- Assess and manage patients with nephrotic syndrome, glomerular diseases, and urinary disorders.
- Evaluate patients for dialysis initiation and monitor dialysis-related complications.
- Manage critically ill patients with renal complications in ICU settings.
- Provide consultation for patients with renal impairment before and after surgical procedures.
- Coordinate with Urology, Cardiology, Neurology, Critical Care, and other departments for multidisciplinary patient care.
- Review laboratory investigations, imaging, and other diagnostic reports and formulate appropriate treatment plans.
- Monitor treatment response and modify treatment plans when required.
- Maintain accurate and complete patient medical records.
- Explain diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis to patients and their attendants.
- Obtain informed consent for procedures and treatments where required.
- Ensure compliance with hospital clinical protocols and patient-safety standards.
- Participate in emergency and on-call services as per hospital requirements.
- Participate in clinical meetings, case discussions, audits, and quality-improvement activities.
- Follow hospital policies, NABH standards, and applicable medical guidelines.
- Maintain professional and ethical standards at all times.
- Guide and support junior doctors and medical staff.
- Participate in academic activities, CME programs, and professional development initiatives.
- MBBS
- DM/DNB in Nephrology
- Valid registration with the relevant Medical Council.
- Experience in a hospital/clinical nephrology setting preferred.
- Experience in dialysis management and critical care nephrology will be an advantage.
- Strong clinical and diagnostic skills.
- Expertise in renal disease management and dialysis.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong decision-making and patient-management skills.
