Dynamics 365 Engineer – UKI SAPDecomEnabler

Role Purpose

CGI is looking for an experienced Microsoft Dynamics 365 Engineer supporting the modernisation of enterprise applications and the progressive transition of business capabilities and integrations away from legacy SAP dependent services.

The Dynamics 365 Engineer will design, build, test and maintain high quality solutions using Microsoft Dynamics 365 and the Power Platform, working within a cross functional engineering squad alongside Product, Architecture, QA, Operations and other technology teams.

The role requires strong Dynamics engineering capability together with experience in integrations, APIs, Power Platform, Azure services and modern software engineering practices.

Within the SAPDecomEnabler context, the engineer will work with relevant application and integration teams to understand existing SAP dependencies and help deliver Dynamics based capabilities and integrations required to support the target state architecture.

Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role

Key Responsibilities

  • Dynamics 365 Engineering
  • Design, develop, test and maintain scalable solutions using Microsoft Dynamics 365.
  • Configure and customise Dynamics applications to meet agreed business requirements.
  • Develop high quality, secure and maintainable solutions in accordance with established engineering standards.
  • Develop and maintain Dynamics components including: Entities / tables Plugins Workflows Business logic Web resources Model driven applications Custom controls Integrations
  • Analyse technical requirements and translate them into robust Dynamics solutions.
  • Ensure solutions meet agreed functional and non functional requirements.
  • SAP Decommissioning Enablement
  • Work within the UKI SAPDecomEnabler squad to support the transition of relevant capabilities and dependencies away from legacy SAP services.
  • Collaborate with SAP, application, architecture and business teams to understand existing process and integration dependencies.
  • Identify where Dynamics 365 capabilities form part of the target state solution.
  • Develop or enhance Dynamics functionality required to support processes transitioning away from SAP.
  • Support the replacement or decoupling of SAP dependent interfaces where Dynamics is part of the target architecture.
  • Work with integration teams to ensure downstream and upstream dependencies are understood and addressed.
  • Support migration, cutover, validation and stabilisation activities associated with the transition.
  • Ensure replacement capabilities are operationally ready before associated legacy dependencies are retired.
  • Dynamics 365 & Power Platform
  • Develop solutions using the Microsoft Power Platform alongside Dynamics 365.
  • Build and enhance solutions using: Power Apps Power Automate Dataverse Model driven applications
  • Automate business processes and workflows using appropriate Power Platform capabilities.
  • Develop reusable components and patterns where appropriate.
  • Ensure Power Platform solutions follow agreed governance, security and development standards.
  • Integration Engineering
  • Design and develop integrations between Dynamics 365 and other enterprise systems.
  • Build and consume REST APIs and web services.
  • Support integration with legacy/SAP applications during transition.
  • Work with Azure based integration technologies where appropriate.
  • Develop solutions using technologies such as: Azure Functions Azure Logic Apps Azure Service Bus APIs / Web Services
  • Support event driven and asynchronous integration patterns.
  • Ensure integrations are secure, resilient, observable and supportable.
  • Troubleshoot complex integration and data flow issues across platforms.
  • Software Development

Depending on the Dynamics solution area, develop and maintain solutions using relevant technologies including:

  • Build and support automated deployment pipelines for Dynamics and Power Platform solutions.
  • Promote controlled and repeatable deployment across environments.
  • Participate in code reviews and peer reviews.
  • Implement automated testing where appropriate.
  • Support continuous improvement of development and deployment practices.
  • Ensure releases comply with Centrica change, security and engineering controls.
  • Testing & Quality Engineering
  • Take ownership of the quality of delivered Dynamics solutions.
  • Develop and execute appropriate unit and technical testing.
  • Support integration, system and user acceptance testing.
  • Participate in peer/code reviews.
  • Investigate and resolve defects proactively.
  • Ensure technical solutions satisfy functional and non functional requirements.
  • Support regression testing during SAP transition and decommissioning activities.
  • Validate that changes do not adversely affect existing business processes and integrations.
  • Security & Compliance
  • Develop solutions in accordance with Centrica security and data protection requirements.
  • Apply appropriate Dynamics security roles and access controls.
  • Ensure customer and business data is handled responsibly.
  • Follow secure software development practices.
  • Consider security, privacy and compliance requirements throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Work with Security and Architecture teams where design approval or specialist input is required.
  • Performance, Resilience & Scalability
  • Design Dynamics solutions with appropriate consideration for: Performance Availability Scalability Resilience Maintainability Supportability
  • Identify and resolve performance issues.
  • Ensure integrations can handle expected business volumes.
  • Avoid unnecessary customisation where standard Dynamics/Power Platform capabilities can meet requirements effectively.
  • Contribute to continuous platform optimisation.
  • Live Service Support
  • Support Dynamics solutions after deployment into production.
  • Participate in incident investigation and technical troubleshooting.
  • Perform root cause analysis for recurring issues.
  • Resolve defects and production problems.
  • Contribute to ongoing platform and service improvements.
  • Ensure appropriate technical documentation and support knowledge is maintained.
  • Support hypercare following major migrations or SAP decommissioning releases.

SAP Transformation Experience – Highly Desirable

For the UKI SAPDecomEnabler squad, candidates with the following experience would be particularly valuable:

  • Previous involvement in SAP transformation, migration or decommissioning programmes.
  • Experience replacing business capabilities previously delivered through SAP.
  • Experience decoupling enterprise applications from SAP integrations.
  • Understanding of SAP to Dynamics integration patterns.
  • Experience with enterprise data migration and interface transition.
  • Experience identifying upstream/downstream system dependencies.
  • Experience supporting technical cutover and hypercare.
  • Understanding of controlled legacy system retirement.

Deep SAP development expertise is not necessarily required; the primary requirement is Dynamics engineering capability combined with the ability to work effectively with SAP and integration teams during the transition.

Dynamics Product Experience

Depending on the specific capability being transitioned, relevant experience may include one or more of:

  • Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement (CE)
  • Dynamics 365 Customer Service
  • Dynamics 365 Field Service
  • Dynamics 365 Sales
  • Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (F&O)

Candidates do not necessarily need deep expertise across every Dynamics product. The appropriate Dynamics specialisation should align with the specific business capability being transitioned by the squad.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a hands on Dynamics engineer rather than purely a Dynamics functional consultant.

They should be comfortable working across Dynamics configuration, custom development, Power Platform and enterprise integrations, while collaborating with architects, SAP teams and business stakeholders.

For this particular squad, the strongest candidate would combine:

Dynamics 365 + C#/.NET + Power Platform + APIs/Integration + Azure + modern engineering practices

with previous exposure to SAP transformation/decommissioning or complex legacy modernisation programmes.

Candidates with backgrounds such as Dynamics 365 Developer, Dynamics Engineer, CRM Developer, Power Platform/Dynamics Developer or Full Stack D365 Engineer would be particularly relevant.
