Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Accounts & Bookkeeping Manager to lead and oversee a portfolio of Canadian accounting and bookkeeping clients. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on expertise in Canadian accounting, bookkeeping, financial reporting, reconciliations, GST/HST/PST compliance, month-end and year-end closing, and team management.

The candidate will be responsible for reviewing and approving accounting work, managing workflow and deadlines, handling complex client files, providing technical guidance to the team, and ensuring high-quality deliverables and exceptional client service.


Key Responsibilities

Accounting, Bookkeeping & Financial Reporting

  • Lead and oversee a portfolio of Canadian accounting and bookkeeping engagements.
  • Review bookkeeping work, working papers, financial statements, and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare and review financial statements for complex and high-value client accounts.
  • Review GST/HST and PST returns and ensure compliance with applicable Canadian requirements.
  • Review transactions across multiple entities and currencies.
  • Validate accounting treatments and data entered by team members.
  • Ensure books are accurate, complete, reconciled, and delivered within defined deadlines.


General Ledger & Reconciliations

  • Oversee bank, credit card, and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Review account balances and investigate discrepancies or unusual transactions.
  • Review month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Review and approve adjusting entries and journal entries.
  • Ensure financial records are complete, accurate, and properly supported.
  • Review investment accounting and related reconciliations where required.


Team Leadership & Workflow Management

  • Supervise, mentor, and guide accountants, bookkeepers, and senior team members.
  • Review and approve accounting work completed by team members.
  • Monitor workflow, file status, priorities, and delivery timelines.
  • Allocate work effectively and ensure timely completion of assignments.
  • Provide technical guidance and resolve complex accounting and bookkeeping issues.
  • Conduct quality-control reviews and provide constructive feedback for team development.
  • Report workflow status, critical issues, and key client matters to senior management.


Client Management

  • Communicate professionally with Canadian clients regarding accounting and bookkeeping matters.
  • Liaise with clients, investment brokers, internal teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Understand client requirements and provide accurate financial information and updates.
  • Respond to accounting-related queries and resolve issues within agreed timelines.
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships.
  • Ensure consistent service quality and timely delivery across the client portfolio.


Compliance & Tax Support

  • Support Canadian corporate accounting, compliance, and tax-related requirements.
  • Ensure accounting records are maintained in accordance with applicable Canadian accounting standards.
  • Review and support GST/HST, PST, and other statutory reporting requirements.
  • Work with relevant Canadian tax and accounting platforms.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders for tax and compliance requirements.


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business, or a related field.
  • 7–10 years of relevant accounting/bookkeeping experience.
  • 3–5 years of team supervision or management experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience in Canadian accounting and bookkeeping.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian GST/HST and PST.
  • Excellent understanding of bank, credit card, and GL reconciliations.
  • Strong knowledge of financial statements and month-end/year-end closing.
  • Strong review, leadership, and quality-control capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

  • Xero – Advanced
  • QuickBooks – Advanced
  • Dext – Advanced
  • Hubdoc – Advanced
  • Microsoft Excel – Advanced
  • Microsoft Word, Outlook & PowerPoint – Advanced


Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience with CCH TaxPrep / CCH iFirm Tax.
  • CPA, CPB, or equivalent professional accounting qualification preferred.
  • Experience in investment accounting.
  • Experience managing accounting for multiple entities and currencies.
  • Experience working with Canadian accounting firms, KPOs, or outsourced accounting environments will be an advantage.
