SDE 3 (Backend) | Member Experience & Growth | Cult.fit

• We’re looking for a strong backend engineer to join our Member Experience and Growth teams. Member Experience is all about delivering a seamless user experience and keeping members engaged and coming back, while Growth focuses on how we acquire and convert them. You’ll build the core systems behind both.
• This is a senior IC role with real technical ownership and leadership. You’ll shape architecture, drive execution, and raise the bar for the team as it scales, using AI as a force multiplier in everything you build.

What You’ll Do

• Design, build, and scale backend systems using Java and Node.js that power member-facing experiences (discovery, booking, subscriptions, personalization) and retention levers (engagement, habit-building, re-activation, loyalty), along with growth platforms (funnels, pricing, offers, experimentation).
• Own high-level design (HLD) and low-level design (LLD) for critical services, with a focus on scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
• Lead technical initiatives end to end: drive design reviews, make architecture decisions, and align Product, Design, App/Web, Data, and Marketing on the right solution.
• Mentor and grow engineers through design and code reviews and hands-on technical leadership.
• Use AI as a force multiplier across coding, testing, debugging, code reviews, and internal workflows, and champion AI-first practices within the team.
• Build fast, reliable APIs that keep App and Web experiences smooth for millions of members.
• Use data and experimentation to improve user experience, engagement, and retention metrics.
• Drive performance and cost efficiency through smart data modeling, caching, and async processing.
• Ensure production readiness through testing, observability, monitoring, and incident ownership.
• Help raise the engineering bar across the org.

What We’re Looking For

• B.Tech/M.Tech in Computer Science
• 6-8 years of backend engineering experience in production-grade systems
• Strong hands-on experience with Java (Spring Boot) or Node.js (NestJS/Express)
• Strong DSA fundamentals and problem-solving skills
• Strong LLD skills (OOP, design patterns, clean and extensible code) and HLD skills (scalable, distributed architectures)
• Proven technical leadership: leading designs, driving cross-team initiatives, and mentoring engineers
• Strong AI proficiency: hands-on experience using AI tools to multiply productivity, quality, and delivery speed
• Solid grasp of distributed systems, microservices, and API design
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB, MongoDB)
• Experience with caching (Redis/Memcached) and event-driven/async processing
• A product mindset with a focus on user experience and retention
• Strong communication and ownership mindset
• Comfortable in Agile/Scrum environments

Good to Have

• Kafka, Pub/Sub, SQS, or other streaming/messaging systems
• Experience with high-traffic consumer platforms, personalization, notifications, or experimentation/A-B testing systems
• Experience building AI-powered features or internal AI workflows
• Experience leading technical initiatives across teams
