Research Scientist (Chemistry)

Larsen & Toubro

Job Summary

We are looking for a Chemist to lead R&D programs focusing on the role of inorganic / organic compounds, metals, and ionic species in water and wastewater treatment. The candidate will develop advanced formulations, study redox and precipitation reactions, and evaluate corrosion and scaling mechanisms that impact treatment plant operations.

This position requires a chemist who can combine theoretical expertise with applied research, designing experiments that directly enhance the efficiency, safety, and reliability of treatment systems. The incumbent will also guide analytical method development for metal speciation and contamination control, supporting both internal R&D and field troubleshooting. The candidate is expected to work closely with a team of technologists and engineers to ensure that developed solutions can be validated, scaled, and successfully implemented in real-world field conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory research on metal ion removal, precipitation and ion separation.
  • Develop and deliver next-generation technologies for brine management and ZLD solutions.
  • Study reaction kinetics and equilibria of inorganic species in treatment processes.
  • Develop new coagulant or adsorbent formulations for industrial wastewater.
  • Characterize solid and aqueous phases using XRD, ICP-MS, and SEM.
  • Collaborate with process engineers to translate findings into scalable designs.
  • Publish technical papers and participate in patent generation.

Qualifications

  • Education: PhD in Chemistry.
  • Experience: Approximately 10 years with strong exposure to water/wastewater chemistry.
  • Strong foundation in coordination chemistry, solubility equilibria, and analytical methods.
  • Publications: Minimum 5 papers in reputed chemistry or environmental journals; patents preferred.
  • Proficiency in spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques.

Location

Water Technology Centre, Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu
