Key Responsibilities

Job Description: Azure Data Cloud Architect

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Azure Data Cloud Architect to lead the strategy, design, and modernization of cutting-edge, enterprise-scale data solutions on Microsoft Azure. In this role, you will serve as a strategic technical leader bridging business strategy and technology execution. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders—including the Data Hub, Digital & AI teams, and DevOps—to translate complex business requirements into high-performing, resilient, secure, and cost-effective cloud data architectures.

Your deep expertise in Azure cloud data services, advanced data modeling, modern ETL/ELT pipelines, cloud governance, and enterprise digital transformation will drive continuous innovation, scalability, and efficiency across our global data ecosystem.

Key Strategic Focus Areas

  • Solution Architecting: Designing robust, multi-region end-to-end architectures that leverage the full power of Azure native data and analytics services.
  • Modernization & Cloud Migration: Leading the evolution from legacy data warehouses, databases, and on-premises infrastructure to cloud-native Azure data solutions.
  • Digital & AI Transformation: Enabling advanced analytics, machine learning, and business intelligence capabilities that empower data-driven decision-making across the enterprise.

Detailed Roles, Responsibilities & Key Activities

  • Strategic Solution Architecting
  • End-to-End Architectural Leadership: Design, architect, and deliver scalable, resilient, and secure data platform architectures utilizing the complete Azure data ecosystem (e.g., Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure SQL Database, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Azure Data Lake Storage).
  • Business & Technical Alignment: Partner closely with business stakeholders, product managers, and leadership in Digital & AI to evaluate business needs and translate them into high-level architectures (HLD) and technical architecture documents (TAD).
  • Target State Architecture: Define future-state data architecture roadmaps, network flow matrices, environment topologies, secret inventories, and enterprise data models (star/snowflake schemas, Data Vault, or relational models).
  • Modernization & Enterprise Data Transformation
  • Legacy System Cloud Migration: Architect and execute cloud migration strategies to transition legacy on-premises databases, data warehouses, and ETL jobs into modernized Azure cloud-native equivalents with minimal operational disruption.
  • Modern Data Integration (ETL/ELT): Oversee and optimize real-time, micro-batch, and batch data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and Event Driven architectures to accelerate time-to-insight.
  • Innovation & Emerging Technologies: Continuously evaluate emerging cloud, AI/ML, and IoT technology capabilities (e.g., Azure ML, Logic Apps, Service Bus) to solve complex data challenges and expand automated operational workflows.
  • Implementation, Governance, Security & Operations
  • Data Security & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure full compliance with global and enterprise data privacy and security standards (including GDPR, HIPAA, UK data residency regulations, and client-specific security standards such as Sodexo policies).
  • Automated Governance & Lineage: Establish comprehensive data governance frameworks encompassing metadata management, enterprise data cataloging, lineage tracking, data quality monitoring, and role-based access control (RBAC).
  • DevOps, IaC & Automation: Work with DevOps teams to drive automated infrastructure provisioning and continuous delivery using Infrastructure as Code (IaC with Azure Bicep/ARM templates/Terraform) and Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines.
  • Security & Vulnerability Remediation: Regularly review security compliance reports (e.g., Sodexo's CACTUS tool, Azure Security Center) and leverage Azure Key Vault, Private Endpoints, and Managed Identities to remediate security risks.
  • Performance Tuning & Cost Optimization: Monitor, audit, and tune data pipelines, query performance, and storage tiers for maximum speed, enterprise resilience, and cloud cost efficiency (FinOps).
  • Technical Leadership, Mentorship & Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Team Mentorship & Guidance: Act as a hands-on technical mentor to data engineers, data analysts, and data scientists, instilling cloud design patterns and architecture best practices.
  • Cross-Functional Synergy: Foster seamless collaboration between data engineering, infrastructure, security, DevOps, and business analytics teams.
  • Operational Guidelines & Standards: Author standard operating procedures, architectural guidelines, reference architectures, and deployment documentation.
