An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health Care Support Worker to join our Emergency Department. This vacancy is part time at 23 hours and permanent with in the ED. The Department is part of the Scottish Trauma Network being the first port of call for stabilisation for the South of Scotland escalating care to either Edinburgh Major Trauma Centre or to Newcastle. We also receive all speciality groups including paediatrics. This is a busy, fast paced environment with an unpredictable workload so being able to adapt at fast pace is vital. The Department receives anything from 80 to over 100 patients per day, roughly 30,000 attendees per year. The successful candidate would be required to work a day/night rotation pattern including weekends. Applications are welcomed from those with experience but not essential as training will be provided. The role of the HCSW is to support the Registered Nursing team in Care delivery and maintain safety in the department.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period, for which you would be paid, until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Hiring Manager.
