About Centre for Social Impact and Philanthropy (CSIP):
The Centre for Social Impact and Philanthropy (CSIP) at Ashoka University is India’s first academic centre, which focuses on enabling strategic and robust philanthropy for greater social impact. It informs sector strategy through credible research and data, convenes platforms for norm-setting and collaborative learning, and offers programmes that strengthen civil society capability and sustainability. CSIP has a strong leadership bench including a Centre Director and five member active and engaged Advisory Board composed of the sector’s most impactful leaders, donors and intermediaries.
As CSIP goes through a strategy reboot, it is embracing a startup mindset as it zooms into strategic focus areas with an intent to iteratively grow and measurably impact India’s social sector. As part of it’s Educational strategic focus area, CSIP’s vision is to build a robust and resilient leadership bench for the social sector by cultivating an ecosystem of producers and distributors who will create and disseminate high quality teachable and actionable content and higher-ed and exec-ed capacity building programs.
Role and Responsibilities:
This role will cultivate and work with an ecosystem of partners; Ashoka academia, international faculty, non profit practitioners, philanthropists, and social sector intermediaries to produce and disseminate best-in-class thematic teaching content and programs. The target learner groups for CSIP’s strategic educational focus area are university students, non profit practitioners and philanthropists in varying stages of their life and career journeys. This role requires a high degree of collaboration to work with a variety of partners who will co-produce high quality content and programs on the one hand and multiple target learner groups on the other.
Principal duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Design and deliver engaging capacity building programs, courses and curricula customized to the target learner group; Ashoka students, non profit practitioners, philanthropists
- Partner with Head of Research at CSIP to build and manage a body of knowledge content and teaching tools such as case studies, playbooks, frameworks, data and insights etc, combining them with non traditional tools such as immersions, field trips, convenings, speaker series, etc to create a comprehensive set of offerings for the learner groups.
- Ideate and design a series of programs over time; spanning certificates, minor, major, diploma and degree programs, laying the foundation for CSIP to grow into a School for Social Impact and Philanthropy
- Leverage multiple channels, offline, online as well as the Ashoka X platform for delivery CSIP Educational
- Support and coach cohorts of Ashoka Faculty, international faculty, visiting Faculty and Fellows across traditional academia, sector practitioners and philanthropists who will teach CSIP’s programs
- Aspirational goals include:
o Partner with social and education sector partners in India and abroad for dissemination of content such as case studies, playbooks produced by CSIP via the partner’s capacity building programs
o Position CSIP as a destination for high calibre international visiting faculty and scholars interested in researching the Indian social sector and/or teaching Indian learners
- Leverage an iterative and experimental approach to deliver with excellence in small initial bites and grow in scale. Build and integrate a measurement model to ensure impact
- Lead in a fast evolving, start up like environment and participate in driving organizational development and institution building at CSIP
- Support the Centre director in representing the Centre to stakeholders including but not limited to
(a) CSIP Donors
(b) Sector players such as intermediaries, Philanthropists, NGOs
(c) Ashoka Community
(d) Media
(e) Government bodies
(f) Global Academia focused on the social sector
- Be responsible for hiring, coaching, mentoring, and supporting team members in developing and meeting their goals
- Support a flex talent model by building a high-powered in-house team supported by agencies and partners
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- Minimum qualification of a bachelor’s degree. Post-Graduation/PhD degree preferred
- Prior experience at senior roles in building higher educational institutions, content and programmes. Social sector, social sciences, business school, humanities or liberal arts experience preferred
- Ability to design and implement a multifaceted set of educational programs across age and experience ranges of target learner group
- Ability to work in a fast paced, boot strapped environment, quickly establishing early wins and incrementally and measurably growing scope and impact
- Bring wide knowledge, experience and networks in educational programs in India and, if possible, globally
- Highly skilled in diplomacy and negotiations to handle a diverse range of stakeholders with oftentimes conflicting ideologies, agendas and interests
- Drive for results with a strong passion for the organizational mission
- Experience of leading and managing social sector organizations or with knowledge/ consulting organisations or other ecosystem support organizations
- Strong work ethic, ability to switch between big picture thinking and hands on approach as the situation demands
- High level of personal integrity, the ability to build strong relationships and reputation across a wide range of stakeholders and sound leadership abilities are critical
